ABOUT HURST+GILLANDERS | SW LONDON INTERIOR DESIGNERS
Hurst + Gillanders was founded in 2017, after meeting at the school gates and discovering our shared passion for design and interiors. Between us, we have over 20 years’ experience in London-based residential interior design, alongside international experience in the commercial and retail sectors and extensive experience in property development.
We love creating joyful, contemporary interiors that feel timeless rather than tied to a particular trend. Our aim is to help you love your home and make the most of every inch of space. We don’t believe in reproducing a particular style or look; instead, we mix old and new, layer colour and texture, and work with the things you already love to create spaces that feel personal, beautiful and full of character.
Today, Tamsin leads the studio and the day-to-day running of the business, with Emma continuing to contribute as a design consultant. While the way we work has evolved, our shared approach to thoughtful, characterful and joyful interiors remains at the heart of Hurst + Gillanders.
Before pursuing her passion for design, Tamsin had a career as a solicitor at a city law firm and brings with her valuable business skills and experience. After qualifying from Chelsea College of Art with a Diploma in Interior Design, she worked in property development whilst running her own interiors business. Coming from a family of artists, Tamsin has always had a natural love of colour, pattern and art. She particularly enjoys bringing vintage artwork into contemporary interiors and finding ways to make a client’s existing collection feel completely at home within a new scheme. For her, art is often the starting point for a room, influencing the colour palette and atmosphere of a home. Its about creating rooms that feel personal and full of character.
Emma studied Interior Design in Glasgow. Her career kicked off working with architectural firms on large scale commercial projects and moved into the retail and hospitality sector. Emma’s career has allowed her the luxury of living and working in a wide range of countries. Designing for boutique retail and residential design firms in Copenhagen, Jakarta and Geneva which has given her an extraordinary breadth of design experience. She has a keen eye for detail and a strong interior architectural background.
Emma currently works as a design consultant for Hurst + Gillanders.
